What are entry criteria?
- For the Herne Bay and Chelsea events; you should have swum at least 1 km in open (i.e. ocean) water
- For the Eagle Technology Bays and Rangitoto Swims; you must have already swum the Ironman Chelsea Swim or an equivalent distance in open water
- If you are aged 16 years or younger we might want to contact you to have your parent or guardian confirm your ability to complete the swim
- ACM has the right to decline any applicant if there are significant doubts about the entrant’s ability to complete the course
What happens if the weather is bad?
If the seas are rough then ACMS, in consultation with the safety support teams Coastguard Northern Region (Inc) and Auckland Canoe Club may decide to cancel the event. While we will endeavour to make this decision as early as possible, rapidly changing conditions could mean that it might have to be taken right up to start time.
How will cancellations be advised?
If time permits, cancellations will be advertised on the ZB Cancellation Service and participants e-mailed. Otherwise entrants will be advised of late cancellations at the starting line
Are there limits on the number of entrants?
For safety reason we have to put limits on the size of the fields, so to avoid missing out, ENROL EARLY
Is there a refund policy?
If you decide to withdraw refunds will be made provided the request is made in writing and reaches the organiser at least a day before the event. If the event is cancelled then there will be no refunds but ACM will donate the excess over expenditure to a community based cause.
How can I enter a race?
Option 1: You can either enter on-line by following the link from the home page, or
Option 2: by completing a hard copy entry from (either print the PDF entry from this site or else obtain a form from your local pool) and mail it plus your cheque to:

Can I make a late entry?
Late entries will be accepted (subject to numbers) up to registrations closing on race day. A late entry surcharge will apply.
How do I know I am entered?
On-line entries will be confirmed with an e-mail confirming your entry details. If you enter via a posted entry form you will only receive confirmation if you provide your e-mail address.
What is the pre-race registration for?
You MUST be at the start point by the advertised Assembly time to confirm that you taking part in the event. There you will issued with your official swim cap and receive final safety instructions. You will not be allowed to enter the water until you have registered.
What happens if I get into trouble?
Stop swimming and put your hand up. We will have the Coastguard and members of the Auckland Canoe Club providing safety support at all events
Should I wear a wet-suit?
It’s optional, but less experienced swimmers in colder water or competing over the longer events will find them useful. Note that swimmers wearing wet-suits are not eligible for the most prestigious prizes.
Where can I buy or hire a wet-suit?

Do I need to wear a swim cap?
You MUST wear the swim cap provided when you register
Can a support team accompany me?
No. For the safety of everyone involved private boats, canoes etc are not permitted to approach competitors in the water
How do I get my gear from the start point to the finish?
ACMS will provide transport for bags from start point to finish. Please label these bags. Personal arrangements will have to be made for your cars.
Where do I find the race results?
The results will be posted on this web-site a few days after each event
